The Sally Walker Bursary

The bursary was launched in 2007 in memory of Sally Walker, Deputy Head and Head of Special Needs at the school from 1999-2002 and Headmistress from 2002-2005. For more information about Sally click here.

Bursaries are currently available to children of any age from 4 upwards.  From 2013 however, they will only be available to children aged 6 or over on the 1st September of the year of entry (Year 2 and above), including those with special needs.  The closing date for applications is 1st December of the year preceding entry.

All families applying will undergo a financial means test. Awards can discount the fees up to 100%, at the discretion of the Bursary Committee.  Although the only qualification for the bursary is financial, parents will be asked to sign a standard parent contract on joining the school.  In order to continue receiving bursary funds each year, parents will have to satisfy the committee that the terms of the parent contract have not been violated, and that their financial circumstances have not changed in such a way as would disqualify them from receiving discounted fees. Awards cover the basic tuition fee and lunches, plus the cost of any extra support lessons. Parents are expected to meet the cost of uniform, extra-curricular clubs and activities and trips.

The ideal bursary applicant will be a child who is able to benefit fully from the broad education that Finton House offers.  Applicants for Reception places in 2011 and 2012 will not be assessed, but we will ask to see reports from the child's nursery, or from any healthcare professionals with whom they have been in regular contact e.g. a pediatrician or child psychologist.  Applicants for places in Years 1- 5 will be invited to spend a half day at the school in the Spring term, during which they will be informally assessed to ensure that they will integrate happily into the school, and that we are able to meet their educational needs.

We hold our Annual Open Evening on the second Thursday in October.  It is an excellent opportunity to meet all the staff, see the school and spend some time looking at the children's work.  This event is open to anyone with an interest in the school. There is no need to phone ahead - just come along.

Anyone interested in applying for the bursary should contact Lucy Wheeler, the registrar, on 020 8682 0921 or by emailing admissions@fintonhouse.org.uk
