Teaching Technology

Learning by Doing

At Finton House we've invested in the teaching of Design and Technology and ICT by developing dedicated facilities and employing specialist teachers. Both subjects are taught in small groups, allowing for greater individual attention.

Computers

Pupils have weekly ICT lessons (and the option of taking an after-school club) in the computer room, which has up-to-date technology. They start with basics such as using the mouse in Reception and by Year 6 are confident users of, among other things, word processors, spreadsheets, data-bases and the Internet. Pupils for whom it is deemed to be beneficial participate in a touch typing lessons and are encouraged to use laptops in the classroom.

Design and Technology

Children have at least an hour of DT every week. In the course of their time at Finton House they undertake a wide variety of projects including designing, making and evaluating Land-racers, pop-up books and a computer-controlled model fairground.
